History of Rock

Rock music is a genre of music that evolved during and after the 60s, specially in the United Kingdom and the USA. It’s origins go back to the 1940s and 50s Rock n’ Roll which was influenced by the rhythm & blues and country music, Rock music was also influenced by blues, folk, jazz and classical music among others.  

In the late 60s several subgenres appeared, including blues rock, folk rock, country rock and jazz-rock fusion, a lot of which helped psychedelic rock emerge. From here came progressive rock, glam rock and heavy metal. Later in the second half  of the 70s arose punk rock which went on into the 80s, later influencing new wave, post-punk and alternative rock. After the 1990s alternative rock started dominating the mainstream with grunge, britpop and indie rock.
Since then more fusion subgenres arrived like pop punk, rap rock and rap metal, as well as attempts to go back in Rock history (garage rock for example)
